Why Ulyana Lopatkina is a Mariinsky Icon! You must know this ballerina. Ballet Legend.
Переглядів 7 тис.День тому
Hi Everyone! Welcome Back to my channel! Thank you for your support as always. Today we are going to be looking at probably my favourite ballerina of all time for so many reasons, and that is none other than Mariinsky legend Ulyana Lopatkina. She has retired now sadly, sorely missed! She is known most notably for her portrayal of Odette/Odile in Swan lake. Her long lines ( she is tall like me a...

Tendu and plié. And anything with beautfiful epaulement. Not very good at lifting my legs up high :-D (I'm 45 and did ballet age 5-8, 14-18, 20-21 and have started again at 40. Best decision ever)

Ronde de jambe and fondu. Both so emotive and you can make them so flowy. I do love some simple frappe combos, though

Mine has always been fondue too!!!!! I love ballet so much that I cry at the barre. It’s been 10 years since I’ve danced and I’ve lost everything. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss it! It makes me so happy to watch you dance perfectly! Your feet! Your movements! You are perfection! ❤ (Well not cry boohoo….but I used to get watery eyes!!!)

This makes me emotional because as an adult start who went on to dance professionally (! DREAMS COME TRUE !) I had to celebrate the first double, the first turn on pointe, the first time in the corps, and the first time a teacher didn't think I was a beginner - without these moments of excitement and enthusiasm I never would have succeeded!

I quit at 5 because I was bullied for being visually impaired. It took me 30 years to put on a pair of ballet shoes again. I started back in January this year and my teacher is incredible. She pushes me, she corrects, she praises, she pushes me harder. I love her and I’m so glad I finally did something for myself. Now my son and I do barre together at home with our portable barre. He’s taking his grade 3 soon and it’s lovely to have that mutual interest.

Lopatkina is the best! I have the same thoughts about Maria. Actually, I've seen her Raymonda in person on the 25 of April 2021. (I have an excel document where I write all the ballet and opera performances I've been to) My favorites from the younger generation of Mariinsky ballet other than Maria Illushkina right now are: - Svetlana Savelieva (I saw her 4th grade Vaganova exam online around 7 years ago, and I've been waiting for her to become a soloist with the Mariinsky ever since, it's like I feel this "ballerina vibe" about her; I saw her in the Mariinsky multiple times, including her solos at the Vaganova graduation performances and in the corps de ballet with the Mariinsky, never disappoints me) - Alexandra Khiteeva(the best arms IMHO) - Daria Ustuzhanina - Daria Ionova I also admire Maria Bulanova. As for prima ballerinas, I prefer Victoria Tereshkina and Renata Shakirova.

Uliana is one of the best ballerinas who ever performed. It is hard to feel this when you watch a video; but the moment she is on stage, she captures your eyes with her majestic moves, and you can’t watch anyone else. It is pure magic, can’t be described otherwise!

I will be near London in early September this year, I would gladly make the trek for the chance to jump in on a few of your beginners in-person classes * if only the stars align 🥹 I just re-began my ballet journey recently after 20+ yrs: continually encouraged by your guidance. I'm grateful I ran across your videos! (And if not this year, then surely the next time I come visit family in the UK! 🤞) I will peruse your website for more information. Thanks again for sharing your experiences ❤

I was so lucky to see her at Covent Garden and what I remember most distinctly is the wit and coquettishness she brought to Titania and Marguerite. Incredible that anyone could criticise her technique or strength as she’s one of those dancers who never brings any attention to effort- always so secure and relaxed, in the moment and playful with the music. She had a reputation for the serious roles but obviously has a deep understanding of characterisation that’s wonderful and entertaining. I totally agree about her hands and gestures. Long or large hands could be a liability but she has total control and conveys so much between steps to create fluidity and incredible expression.
